Nelly Furtado turned to music for enjoyment, learning to play the guitar and the ukulele, and listened to mainstream R&B like Mariah Carey, TLC, Jodeci, Salt-N-Pepa, and Bell Biv DeVoe. Later, she delved into her older brother’s collection of Radiohead, Pulp, Oasis, Portishead, the Verve, and U2, pushing Furtado to fully embrace different musical genres, specifically Brazilian music and material by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Amalia Rodrigues. Hip-hop was also a big catalyst in shaping Furtado’s musical appreciation.

Nelly Furtado in Top10 British radio
Timbaland’s hit track Apologize has been named the biggest radio song in U.K. history. The song beat Timbaland’s 2006 collaboration with singer Nelly Furtado to become the most-played song on British radio since the airwaves were monitored in 1987.
Nelly’s Promiscuous was spun 10,306 times in a single seven-day period in 2006, but the hip-hop star beat the record by 25 spins (10,331) last week.

Nelly Furtado snag coveted trophies at MTV Europe Awards
Canadian pop stars Avril Lavigne and Nelly Furtado have snagged some of the biggest honours at the MTV Europe Music Awards.
Furtado won album of the year for her blockbuster release, “Loose.”
The annual awards show featured performances by Foo Fighters, Mika, Lavigne and the scandal-plagued soul singer Amy Winehouse.
Winehouse sang “Back To Black,” and won the artists’ choice award, determined by a survey of more than 80 fellow performers.
Nelly Furtado Is a Diva Diner?
Nelly Furtado – the worst-behaved diner in showbiz, according to celebrity restaurateur Guy Rubino.
Rubino claims Timberlake insisted on ordering off the menu and Furtado acted like a diva during visits to his Toronto, Canada, eatery Rain.
The chef says, “Furtado made a reservation for 10 guests. She showed up an hour late with five extra people in tow. For parties that size, we do a prix-fixe type of menu.
“Nelly objected and was really rude about it. She expected individual dishes to be prepared. Her manager even came into the kitchen and had the gall to say, ‘Just [bleep] do it! I told her that she and her client could just [bleep] leave.”
In contrast, Rubino claims Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones were the best guests: “They’re very polite. Every time they come in, they pop into the kitchen to say hello. I just love them.”
Furtado to play at US MTV awards
Nelly Furtado have been signed up to perform at this year’s US MTV Video Music Awards in Las Vegas in September.
Furtado has been nominated for female artist of the year, along with Fergie, Winehouse, Beyonce and Rihanna.

Nelly Furtado gets loose
Nelly Furtado energised thousands of fans at her concert at Albufeira’s Estádio Municipal on Friday, July 27.
The extra hours wait was quickly eclipsed by the fantastic performance given by the singer and her group of musicians and dancers. Songs played at the concert included all of the popular favourites such as Man Eater, Loose and I’m Like a Bird. Nelly Furtado also sang two Portuguese songs, one of them a duet called Sozinho with popular Portuguese singer Pedro Abrunhosa.

Tickets to the Nelly Furtado concert on July 27 are now available.
The Portuguese/ Canadian singer first became famous for her single, I’m Like a Bird, followed by Força, the Euro 2004 anthem. She has sold over five million copies of her latest album, Loose, which contains hits like Promiscuous Girl and Maneater.
The event, one of the high points of Albufeira em Festa, takes place from 10pm at the city’s Municipal Stadium.
