Nelly Furtado’s upcoming fifth album, “The Spirit Indestructible,” will be released on June 19th, 2012. The album’s first single, “Big Hoops (Bigger is Better)” (Interscope Records), which Furtado co-wrote with Rodney Jerkins, was released on April 17th. “The Spirit Indestructible” is Furtado’s first English-language studio album since 2006’s double-platinum “Loose,” which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 Chart, was certified multi-platinum in 32 countries, and sold 10 million copies worldwide. “Loose” also spawned three hit singles, including the #1’s “Promiscuous” and “Say It Right,” both of which earned Furtado Grammy Award nominations.

The multi-lingual superstar’s 2000’s double-platinum “Whoa, Nelly!” spawned “I’m Like a Bird,” and was followed by 2003’s gold “Folklore,” whose “Forca” became the official anthem of the 2004 European Cup Football Championship. In 2009 Furtado released her first Spanish-language album, the Latin Grammy Award-winning “Mi Plan,” which reached #1 on the U.S. Latin Billboard chart and swept Canada’s Juno Awards with five wins, including Album of the Year. In all Furtado has sold more than 16 million albums and 18 million singles worldwide, and has racked up international honors including a Grammy Award, a BRIT Award, a Latin Grammy Award, World Music Award and 10 Juno awards.

Nelly Furtado, whose parents are both Portuguese, speaks English, French, Spanish and of course Portuguese. She too plays ukulele, trombone, guitar and piano.

Back in 1999 those who watched Claire Danes’ film Brokedown Palace, heard the first glimpse of Nelly before her first album Whoa, Nelly! was released the following year. “I’m Like a Bird”, her official first single, became her staple track reaching #1 in Canada and #9 in the US, and winning her the Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Performance, making Furtado the first recipient of such Grammy for a first single since Mariah Carey did so a decade prior for “Vision Of Love”.

Through the coming years she released her second album Folklore, and made an impact in the Latin Charts when she recorded duets with Colombian emerging artist Juanes. Out of this collaboration came two singles “Te Busque” and “Fotografia”. The latter single reached #1 hit on the Latin Charts in the US.

Even though she had planted herself as an international success, it wasn’t until her Timbaland-produced third album Loose in 2006 that she had a #1 album. Since then, alongside Timbaland, she has amassed three #1 songs, spawning nine weeks on top: “Promiscuous”, “Say It Right” and “Give It Up To Me”.

In 2009 Nelly took a risk in releasing her first Spanish-only album, Mi Plan, which hit the top 10 in at least ten countries, top forty in an additional seven and hit #1 on the Latin Album Charts in the US. In it she worked with Latin giants Juan Luis Guerra, Julieta Venegas, rapper Mala Rodriguez and Josh Groban.

Expect all of her singles and collaborations to be included in the deluxe version of her The Best of Nelly Furtado greatest hits album which hits stores the same day as P!nk’s, November 16th.

The album includes three new tracks “Stars”, “Girlfriend in The Sky” and “Night is Young”, the lead single off the album.

Nelly will release a 10-year retrospective hits collection this fall. The album, titled the Best of Nelly Furtado, is due out November 16th and features all hits along with previously unreleased tracks. It will be available in standard and double-disc deluxe editions.

The first single from the collection will be a new track titled the “Night Is Young.” It joins a mix of Furtado’s hits including “I’m Like a Bird,” “Promiscuous“, “Say It Right” and “Maneater.” The other two new songs are called “Stars” and “Girlfriend.” A video for “Night Is Young” will be coming in the near future.

“Night Is Young” was co-produced by Salaam Remi, and Stay Bent Krunk-A-Delic. Remi and Furtado also co-wrote “Girlfriend,” while “Stars” was produced by Lester Mendez.

Nelly Furtado will also release an all-new album early next year.

Toronto’s Honey Jam talent showcase has spawned a new album featuring both established stars and upcoming Canadian female urban artists.

Nelly Furtado is a biggest name on the compilation, which was put together by PhemPhat Productions and Universal Music Canada. A portion of the sales proceeds from the disc will be donated to YWCA Toronto, in keeping with Honey Jam’s tradition of supporting women’s charities.

The Honey Jams album will be released on July 17, while a concert featuring a number of independent artists from the record will take place at Toronto’s Mod Club on Aug. 12.
